First Time Prone Foiling
Jeff Yates takes me prone foiling for the first time and here’s how it went…
Success! …well sort of… I come from a lifelong surfing background and in the last 3 years have really taken to wingfoiling. I winging because of a nerve issues in my neck when paddling prone, making surfing very difficult.
Using a 70 L 23 inch wide board, 1400 low aspect foil, and a 70 cm mast I was able to get up and ride 3/10 waves!
On one hand, I thought for sure I’d be able to get it based on my experience. On the other I knew it was very different to surfing and winging.
My old surfing instincts kicked in and I wanted to paddle into the peak, but new better. Seems best to start by just catching the rolling foam, and like Jeff said, 'Go straight.’
The first several attempts I simply popped up too fast and did not keep the board (and foil) level. As soon as my feet were planted I was already leaning into an unrecoverable angle.
After a few times of the same thing happening, it really sunk in that I need to slow my pop up and make sure I was keeping the board level. Then it worked!
By the 4th attempt I was able to activate the foil and glide a little. Each wave after that got a little better and by the 10th wave I was able to pump and glide to the beach! Stoked!

That one should do it! I’ve been very surprised at how well the 750 and 950 pump, and even can catch up to swell in Hawaii.

Nice review, Seth. Also a big shout out to Unifoil for the big beefier M8 Torx screws that don't strip or back out for the mast to fuselage and mast to board connections. Also have been impressed with the stiffness of the Katana masts!

impressive jump on the flight attendant 2, what did you liked the most the foil or the wing ?
Thanks and great question! I’ve been really stoked riding the Reedin wings and foils. All made well and ride well. I’m regularly on the Flight Attendant 980 as it’s very versatile for surf and freestyle. I’ve been hammering on this set for a few months and it’s still holding strong. The wind wings have great power, even more in the Superwing X. The regular Superwing seems a bit more balanced when flagging in surf. I’ve been lucky to try lots of different stuff and all around, their gear is solid. Let me know if you have any other questions or if you’d like to get connected with a dealer or demo. 🤙

@@youdigsurf bonjour! The new North Mode wing is a step up in power and performance from the Nova. The Nova is still good, but Mode has more power and a more versatile wind range.

Super cool vibes coming thru the video! Did you use the harness that much? Or did you need to?
Am STILL feeling the vibes from that run! Used the harness a few times but definitely didn’t need to. Riding the open ocean bumps allowed for plenty of arm resting. As well, the run can be done in less than an hour.

Do you think 100 grit sandpaper would be fine for sanding?
Sanding when first painting that is, my uke is one of the cheap ones with a gloss finish (mahalo 12 fret).. if that has anything to do with it. Also, would it be okay to paint the fret board if you’d like? Thank you!
@@ohmbhatt257 aloha, I think 100 grit might be a little course and could leave scratch marks. If that doesn’t bother you then go for it, the paint will definitely stick. I don’t recommend painting the fretboard of you plan on playing the uke, as it will wear off. If it’s for decoration, then by all means paint away! Hope this helps, good luck and have fun! 🤙~Seth

@@sethcre8s Thank you. I got a hold of a few batches 24 carat gold leaf many years ago and after watching your video I thought that adding some of that would look great. I just feel the world could do with a ukulele adorned with gold leaf. I know that I can't use any varnish on gold leaf, but I get special advise on that.
